Cleaning Chemicals for Heat Exchangers | Valutech Inc

Valutech offers Alfa Laval’s line of Cleaning In Place chemicals for the removal of fouling deposits in plate heat exchangers. It is recommended that CIP operations are performed at regular intervals to remove fouling and improve process efficiency.

Alfa Laval CIP Chemicals have carefully selected formulations that have undergone thorough testing to ensure that gaskets and heating surfaces are not damaged in the flushing process. The chemicals offered do not cause corrosion, are non-toxic, biodegradable, and are compatible with adhesives.

Valutech stocks the following cleaning chemicals, and their MSDS can be accessed by clicking on the respective chemical name.

AlfaPhos

An acidic cleaning liquid with a phosphoric acid base, it is specifically designed to remove metallic oxides, rust, calcium carbonates, and other inorganic scale. AlfaPhos also inhibits corrosion of metal surfaces in heat exchanger equipment. For rust and metallic oxides, it is typically mixed in a ratio of one part AlfaPhos to four parts water; for calcium carbonate and other inorganic scale it is typically mixed in a ratio of one part AlfaPhos to nine parts water.

The recommended operating conditions are 50–70° C (122–158° F) for 2 – 6 hours. The pH of the solution should be below 2.5 at all times; when it is too high, add more AlfaPhos.

AlfaNeutra

A strong alkaline cleaning fluid used specifically for the neutralization of AlfaPhos prior to disposal. AlfaNeutra should be added to AlfaPhos solutions until the pH is within the range of 6-8. The use of large quantities and the overly rapid addition of AlfaNeutra can lead to precipitation.

AlfaCaus

A strong alkaline cleaning fluid with a caustic soda base, it is specifically designed for the removal of biological matter, organic deposits, fats, and oils from heat exchanger equipment. It is typically mixed in a ratio of one part AlfaCaus to nine parts water; the recommended operating conditions are 50–70°C (122–158°F) for 2 – 6 hours. The pH of the solution should exceed 12 at all times; when it is too low, add more AlfaCaus.
