Valutech offers Alfa Laval Contherm® scraped surface heat exchangers that are designed to handle media that would quickly foul standard heat exchangers. Whether your process contains viscous fluids, particle suspensions, or phase-changing media, Contherm® SSHE’s are the ideal solution to ensure efficient and gentle handling where process fluids have viscosities that are considered to be from medium to extremely high.

Contherm®
Alfa Laval’s standard Contherm® series of scraped surface heat exchangers is suited for use within the food, beverage, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, home & personal care, and dairy industries.
This line is well-suited for the handling of heat-sensitive, viscous, sticky, and/or chunky media within a broad range of processing environments, including: aseptic, slush-freezing, sterilization, pasteurization, crystallization, phase-change, and simple heating and cooling. This line can handle fluids with or without particles with viscosities in excess of 50,000 cP.

- Alternate mounting configurations, including a horizontal option.
- Control panel with automatic maintenance status feature, preventing product freezing under interrupted flow.
- Accumulator or heating/cooling valve packages.
- Four rotor diameters: 3”, 4”, 4.5”, and 5”.
- 392 psig product-side pressure rating.
Contherm® Core
Alfa Laval’s Contherm® Core scraped surface heat exchanger is designed to handle fluids with lower viscosity relative to the standard Contherm® line. It is a simpler, more economic option that utilizes the core components of the standard line that can still handle fluids of viscosities ranging from 1000 to 50,000 cP.
Applications include food products such as: sauces, soups, purées, and dressings, as well as lotions, creams and shampoos. It is installed horizontally, and the design allows batch augmentation for continuous processing.
The Contherm® Core features the following design specifications:
- Heating Surface: 9 or 11 ft2
- Product-Side Connection Diameter: 2” or 3”
- Media-Side Connection Diameter: 1.5” or 2”
- Max Design Pressure: 300 psig
- Design Temperature Range: -30°F to 338°F
- Four possible rotor diameters: 3”, 4”, 4.5”, and 5”
