Oil Coolers

Highly Versatile and Customizable Portfolio of Shell-and-Tube and Plate Units

Oil cooler shell and tube heat exchangers are specially designed units that are purpose-built to cool hydraulic, lubricating, quenching, transformer, and other process oils in internal combustion engines, gearboxes, transmission systems, etc. These oils are essential in their respective applications for reducing friction and wear of metal components, removing heat, and performing specific functions such as transmitting power and insulating electrical equipment. Proper cooling is critical to maintain oil stability and extend machinery lifetime as oils above their operating temperature range can lose viscosity, oxidize, or otherwise break down leading to equipment overheat, wear and, eventually, failure. Oil coolers are designed so that oil flows through the shell-side to reduce pressure drops and improve accessibility for removal of oil fouling; this oil typically runs at temperatures of 40-90°C (as high as 225°C) and is cooled by process cooling water or seawater flowing through the tubes.

Valutech works with experienced shell and tube heat exchanger manufacturers to supply oil coolers to suit for industrial manufacturing, mining, and marine applications across a wide range of process scales and operating conditions. The shell and tube oil cooler models we provide have the following general design features:

• Diameters of 84-338 mm (3.3”-13.3”),
• Lengths of 174-1900 mm (6.8”-74.8”).
• Large shell-side clearances with flexible baffle counts to reduce oil-side pressure drop and shear stress.
• Removable end covers for simple cleaning and servicing.
• Available in a variety of connection styles to suit existing process piping.
• Corrosion-resistant tube materials to support available cooling water contaminant and salinity.

Bowman Hydraulic Oil Coolers

Bowman hydraulic oil coolers are a range of standard units that are designed for industrial manufacturing, marine, and mining applications where oils run at temperatures up to 200°C and water is supplied up to 35 bar. They are available with BSP threaded or SAE flanged connections depending on model size, and can be specified with cupronickel or titanium tube stacks, as well as cast iron or marine-specification end covers. Removable end covers allow for access to the tube bundle, allowing for thorough mechanical and chemical cleaning of the tube exteriors and interiors. Bowman oil cooler units feature fully floating tube stacks to minimize thermal stress and pressure drop with efficient heat transfer profiles, and are available with roller expanded tubes to provide extra joint durability.

The EC line is commonly used for low flow rate applications (50-100 L/min oil flow rate), and the GL and GK models are used for medium flow rate applications (200-500 L/min oil flow rate); for complete information on available models, dimensions, and recommended operating conditions, please download the brochure below:

Alfa Laval DOC Plate Oil Coolers

For applications that require a compact installation footprint with a high thermal efficiency, Valutech offers Alfa
Laval’s DOC (Dedicated Oil Cooler) line of brazed plate oil cooler heat exchangers. Based on Alfa Laval’s ubiquitous CB series of brazed plate heat exchangers, the DOC is specifically engineered for hydraulic and lube oil cooling applications with system pressure limits of 50 barg (653 psig) and temperatures up to 225°C (400°F). Large ports ensure reduced pressure drop for increased oil viscosities, and the robust connection flanges of the DOC line feature internal threading and integrated mounting brackets to provide higher torque and connection load resistance relative to conventional connections. These features ensure the DOC range meets the tough operating conditions oil cooling duties while providing the advantages of a compact and flexible system configuration with a low-theta, gasket-free plate heat exchanger. Alfa Laval DOC units are available in 8 sizes; find and compare the DOC series models suitable for your application below:
