Gas-to-Liquid Brazed and Bonded Plate Heat Exchangers
Highly Efficient, Ultra-Compact Heat Exchange Solutions for Gas and Liquid Media Applications

The GL series of high-efficiency plate heat exchangers are specially designed to handle high-temperature gas-to-liquid applications with very low pressure drop. Using Alfa Laval’s proven copper-brazing or stainless steel fusion bonding technologies, these ultra-compact units are gasket-free and are available in a range of sizes and plate counts for efficient, low-maintenance operation. Standard GL models support gas temperatures up to 750°C (1382°F) without risk of thermal fatigue, are provided with in-unit condensate connections, and use a patented dimple plate design to keep pressure drop low in asymmetric applications. Copper-brazed models use a lightweight brazed plate construction to offer units that are typically 75% more compact than the equivalently-rated shell-and-tube design.

For demanding gas-to-liquid applications that require the utility of stainless steel product contact surfaces, Valutech offers the AlfaNova GL series of ultra-compact, highly efficient 100% stainless steel plate heat exchangers. AlfaNova GL models use patented AlfaFusion technology as seen in other AlfaNova models, and have an optimized asymmetric design to minimize pressure drop and energy loss while maximizing heat transfer efficiency. Key applications include fuel cell stacks that operate on hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, or methane, as well as biogas post-treatment, electrolyzers, and ammonia-related chemical processing.

How it Works
GL gas-to-liquid heat exchangers use thin, corrugated stainless steel plates to facilitate heat transfer between the liquid and gas media. Gas and liquid each enter in their designated connections and flow through alternating, asymmetrically-sized channels in a countercurrent pattern. This design enables efficient heat transfer with very large flow rates, and GL models even feature built-in condensation connections.
