Alternative
Energy
Valutech supplies heat exchangers for a variety of alternative
energies including solar, biomass and geothermal. Due to the increasing
costs of fossil fuels the demand for renewable sources of energy
has increased significantly in recent years. In order to maximize
the efficiency of the heating/cooling process, the heat exchanger
must be sized correctly for the application. Valutech's range of
plate and tubular type heat exchangers are used extensively in alternative energy applications including solar
hot water, geothermal and biomass processes.

Solar |
Solar heating systems utilize our water to water style heat exchangers for a number of different applications. Some of the more common applications are domestic water heating, swimming pool heating and general heating for households or larger buildings. Typically a domestic water heating application utilizes glycol in the solar panels to heat the water via a brazed plate or plate and frame heat exchanger. Pool heating applications typically employ a small shell & tube unit constructed of either stainless steel or cupro-nickel.

Biomass |
|
About 98% of the energy used by mankind today is derived from biomass; it is solar energy stored in plants by photosynthesis. Although our most widely used fuel source is nonrenewable fossilized biomass (coal, oil, natural gas), plants store over 60 times the total energy consumed by humanity annually. The utilization of renewable biomass as a means of heating is an environmentally friendly alternative to the use of fossil fuels as it is a carbon neutral energy source. Many biomass heating systems operate at atmospheric pressure and require a plate heat exchanger to tie into an existing pressurized system.

Geothermal |
|
In a geothermal heating system, a ground source heat pump transfers heat from the ground to a building or vice versa depending on the season. The advantage of such a system is the ground temperature several feet beneath the surface is virtually constant throughout the year. It is therefore a great heat sink in the summer and a great heat source in the winter. These systems take advantage of the refrigeration cycle to provide the desired temperatures to the building occupants. Our heat exchangers are utilized within the heat pumps to evaporate and condense the refigerant. They are also used externally within the geothermal system for a variety of applications. |
