Condensers
by Alfa Laval
Using the brazed heat exchanger as an condenser provides
a low cost alternative to the conventional shell & tube heat exchangers.
The main components the condenser are the same as for the evaporator.
The refrigerant enters at top left of the exchanger as hot gas
and start to condensate on the surface of the channels until it
is fully condensated, and then slightly subcooled.
The process is called free condensation, see the light and
dark blue arrows for the refrigeration connections location.
The cooling water (brine) flows counter current in the opposite
channel and is warmed, see the light and dark red arrows for the
water (brine) connections.
Advantages of using a brazed heat exchanger as an condenser:
- Proven performance with thorough testing done at Alfa Laval's
refrigeration labs in Sweden and the United States
- Large capacity ranges for condensers from ¼-80 refrigeration
tons in brazed units and higher tonnages in other types of heat
exchangers
- Most units available from stock
