AlfaRex
Welded Plate Heat Exchangers
The AlfaRex is the result of combining well-proven heat
exchanger technology with modern laser welding technology. Plates
with the traditional herringbone pattern are laser-welded together
to form a plate pack in which both media are in full counter-current
flow. The herringbone pattern creates channels with high fluid turbulence
which increases thermal efficiency and minimizes the risk of fouling.
The AlfaRex was the first full-size totally welded yet compact
unit which could perform in temperatures ranging from -50 to 350
C (-58 to 660 F) and design pressure of up to 40 Bbarg (580psig).
The alfaRex, presently available in six types of plate material,
is now capable of handling flowrates up to 800m3/h (35 Usgpm). Plates
in exotic materials and higher capacities extend the potential of
the AlfaRex to new duties in the petrochemical industries and other
chemical processing industries.
The
compact alternative
A typical AlfaRex installation takes up only one-sixth of the floor
space and weighs only one-sixth of a comparable shell-and-tube heat
exchanger for the same duty.
Media flow in true countercurrent flow which is optimal for heat
transfer, particularly for heat recovery duties. Per units of area,
countercurrent flow achieves 20 percent higher heat transfer values
than cross flow. This, in turn means that AlfaRex can perform the
same duty with considerably less heat transfer area and, therefore,
at less cost.
A low hold-up volume not only allows more accurate process control
but improves operational safety when handling hazardous media.

Compaplate
Welded Plate Heat Exchanger:
The Compaplate Wide Gap Welded plate heat exchanger is a compact
welded plate heat exchanger that is technologically advanced, and
efficient. The wide gap design makes it ideal for applications where
there is one 'dirty' stream and one clean stream.
The Compaplate is fully accessible for cleaning by water lancing
or hydro-blasting on the dirty side.
Unique Features of Compaplate Welded Plate Heat Exchanger
- True Free Flow design on the wide gap side. There are no mounting
or supporting studs on the heat exchanger allowing for a clear
passage through the heat exchanger
- The efficiency is further enhanced by making the flow path through
the heat exchanger a turbulent one. The heat transfer surface
comprise of dimple-shaped plate coils which has an undulatig surface.
This causes a turbulent flow as well as a high film coefficient
on the sealed side due to a thin fluid flow
- Gaps on the process side can vary depending on the application
or service
- There are no inter-plate gaskets allowing for more aggressive
applications and higher temperature/pressure ratings
The
Wide gap side is totally accessible for cleaning and inspections,
without disturbing any existing piping to the heat exchanger
