Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers
Brazed plate heat exchangers are the single most efficient
compact plate type heat exchanger in the market. They are used in
a wide variety of heating systems ranging from snow melting systems
to radiant floor heating, domestic water heating and several other
innovative applications. Heating is a matter of providing comfort
in an indoor environment, i.e., at home, at work or in a public
building. This can also involve outdoor applications from swimming
pools, greenhouses to snow melting systems for driveways. Whether
for residential heating, district heating, HVAC cooling or district
cooling our brazed plate heat exchangers have a major role to play.

How Brazed Heat Exchangers Operate
The flow pattern of the brazed heat exchanger is similar to any
other plate heat exchanger. The compressed plate pack creates a
continuous series of channels. The plate and porthole arrangements
permit the two heat-transfer media to travel in alternate channels
in a counter flow manner.
The efficiency of these heat exchangers is high due to the turbulent
flow patterns of the fluids through the channels. This allows for
a very close temperature approach of 2-3° F resulting in economic
heat extraction.
Advantages
of brazed heat exchangers in hydronic applications:
- They have a high temperature/pressure rating. All Alfa Laval
brazed heat exchangers have a 437° F and 435 psig rating.
- Footprint size of the heat exchanger is small, permitting a
large duty to be done with minimal space
- Brazing creates a strong bond between the plates of the heat
exchanger. This eliminates the need for heavy frames to keep the
plates together resulting in a lightweight unit.
- Complete range of hydronic heat exchangers available in stock
for immediate delivery
- The brazed heat exchanger is a lower cost alternative to the
conventional Shell & Tube heat exchangers due to them being much
more efficient.
